CABLE TV – WHAT’S YOUR OPINION?

Under federal and state law the County of Prince George, Virginia, is authorized to grant franchises to cable television companies to operate a cable television network within the boundaries of the County. The County of Prince George has a cable television franchise agreement with Comcast.

The County may NOT require cable television operators to deploy broadband service in unserved or underserved areas of the County. Cable television franchises may pertain only to cable-related services and facilities. FCC 06-180

At the present time, the only known cable company that has a television franchise in the County of Prince George, VA is Comcast. The existing franchise agreement Comcast has with the County has been in effect since February 7, 1995 and will expire on February 6, 2020.

Under federal regulations, as part of franchise renewal formal process, the County is encouraged seek input as to the needs of the community for cable television service. To that end, the County of Prince George is seeking your opinion regarding your present cable television service provider during the ascertainment phase of the formal process.

Please take the time to complete the survey so that the County can better understand the needs of the community as we consider renewing Comcast’s franchise. The deadline to submit a survey response is October 20, 2017.
