The Hopewell City Council appointed Charles E. Dane, Assistant City Manager as the City's Interim City Manager effective September 1, 2017. Mr. Dane will serve as Interim City Manager until a permanent City Manager is selected by council.

Mr. Charles E. Dane is a native of Hopewell, Virginia. He was appointed Assistant City Manager, City of Hopewell in August of 2014. Previously, he served as Deputy Director and Assistant Director, Department of General Services, Chesterfield County, Virginia. Mr. Dane has over 34 years of experience in government, including the areas of administrator, budget, capital project management, building and grounds, fleet management, communications, waste and resource recovery, print services, parks and recreation, social serivices, information technology services and economic development. 

Mr. Dane stated "I'm honored to serve the citizens of Hopewell for this interim period. I have lived my whole life and raised children in the city of Hopewell and to be able to serve this great organization in a city I love is a real blessing. I want to thank Mayor Jackie Shornak and members of City Council for appointing me for this interim period."

Mr. Dane's career began with the city back in 1977 as a laborer on the Traffic Signal Crew. He eventually left the city and went to work for the City of Petersburg as the Public Works Superintendent. In 1988 Mr. Dane went to work for Slurry Paving, Inc., and started their Reclamation Department until 2001. In 2001, Mr. Dane became employed with Chesterfield County.

The City is very fortunate to have Charlie serve as our Interim City Manager. He has proven that he is one of the City's biggest advocate's and is deeply rooted in Hopewell. He has been instrumental in cultivating our economic development program, and we are now reaping the benefits of his efforts. He will do an exceptional job in our day-to-day operations of the City. We appreciate Charlie's strong leadership skills and look forward to continuing our working relationship. The City is very fortunate to have such a qualified person at the helm said Mayor Jackie Shornak.
