Message from Prince George County Schools

Message from Prince George County Schools

The Prince George County School Board is pleased to announce that Dr. Lisa Pennycuff will be appointed as the next Superintendent of Prince George County Public Schools effective July 1, 2019.  This will allow Dr. Pennycuff to have a period of one month for transition with Mrs. Williams.

Dr. Pennycuff’s service includes 27 years of educational experience in instructional leadership, professional development, strategic planning, and leadership coaching and development.  She has served as a classroom teacher, a Learning Specialist, Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Accountability and Instructional Services, and in her current role as the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Accountability for Prince George County Public Schools.

·        Dr. Pennycuff earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Queens College, a Master of Education in Special Education from the College of William and Mary, an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the George Washington University, and her Doctorate in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership from the College of William and Mary where she has also served as an Adjunct Professor for the Graduate School of Education.

·         During the four years that we have had the opportunity to work directly with her, we have found her to be a “hands on” leader with the ability to lead and inspire high performing teams by building capacity in others while developing and maintaining relationships built on trust.  She is an educational leader who is committed to the success of all children.

Mr. Bill Barnes, our current Director of Secondary, will be appointed as the Interim Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.

·        Mr. Barnes has faithfully served Prince George County Public Schools since 1974.  He was first employed as a teacher at Prince George Jr. High School.  In 1977, he moved to N. B. Clements Jr. High School as a counselor where he served until his promotion in 2014 to the position of Director of Secondary Instruction.  During his time at N.B. Clements Jr. High School, Mr. Barnes also had the unique distinction of serving as counselor during the time that several of our School Board members, their spouses, and their children attended the school.

·        Mr. Barnes holds three degrees from the College of William and Mary, including a Bachelors’ Degree in Business Administration, a Masters’ Degree in Educational Administration, and an Education Specialist Degree in Counseling from The College of William and Mary.  Mr. Barnes has a longstanding history in the community as always working to do what is best for all children.  We believe that Mr. Barnes will serve the faculty, staff, and students of Prince George well in this role.

The School Board will also appoint Mrs. Stephanie Bishop to the position of Director of Secondary Instruction.

Mrs. Bishop has served the children of Prince George County since 1997.  Her service to PGCPS’ began with her appointment as a Theatre Arts Teacher at Prince George High School in 1997.  After nine years in that role, she served as Assistant Principal of J.E.J. Moore Middle School for eight years.  In 2014, Mrs. Bishop was appointed as the Principal of J.E.J. Moore Middle School.  Her leadership has inspired faculty and staff to increase student engagement by meeting students where they are academically as well as socio-emotionally.  Through her efforts, instructional initiatives such as the implementation of the Tiered System of Supports and Project Based Learning have provided students with opportunities to build skills within and beyond the content in areas such as communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and citizenship.

Mrs. Bishop holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Theater Arts and a Master of Education in Secondary Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech.  She earned her administrative endorsement from Virginia Commonwealth University.   Mrs. Bishop has demonstrated her commitment to the children of Prince George, and we are excited to have her serve the division as the Director of Secondary Instruction.

We look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence and are thankful for your service to the children of Prince George.

Thank you.
