Motor Vehicle Reduced Tax Rate for Disabled Veterans

Disabled Veterans - Motor Vehicle Reduced Tax Rate

Effective starting tax year 2013, the Board of Supervisors approved a reduced tax rate for Disabled Veterans on one motor vehicle owned and regularly used by the veteran. The approved rate is $2.13 per $100 of Assessed Value for one motor vehicle owned by a Disabled Veteran.

This reduced rate is available to taxpayers who qualify under the provisions of the State Code of Virginia, Title 58.1.3506. These provisions are as follows:

  • A Disabled Veteran who has been certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs to have a 100% service-connected, permanent and total disability, or 100% by means of individual un-employability, service connected, permanent and totally disabled.
  • You must submit a copy of your letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs certifying this disability to our office. If you are already receiving 100% Veterans real estate exemption and have provided our office with your VA letter previously, you do NOT need to provide it again.

Documentation Required

  • Complete Application
  • Approved letter of disability issued by the U. S. Department of Veteran Affairs
  • Photo Identification (Driver's License and Military Identification Card)
  • Proof of Residency (Utility Bill or Bank Statement)
Please note: This reduction is only for Disabled Veterans. Surviving Spouses are unable to qualify for the reduction.
