Mission Statement

The Prince George County Police Department will facilitate a series of sessions designed to inform citizens of the basic functions of the Prince George County Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office and the Commonwealth’s Attorney's Office.

The Concept of the Community Police Academy

A structured set of briefings offered to Prince George County’s citizens that will be held at the Police Department and the Courthouse that will be held twice a week for two hours. Currently, sessions will be on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m for roughly 10 weeks.

The current outline – 44 topic areas with 44.5 hours worth of instruction

Eligibility

To attend, you must be a Prince George County resident and at least 18 years of age.

Class size is limited to 15.

Sessions will be held Tuesdays and Fridays from 2pm to 4:30pm for 10 weeks.

Participants are expected to attend 90% of all sessions in order to successfully complete the SCPA and to receive a SCPA certificate.

Applicants will be screened for activities that may disqualify them from participating in the academy. This includes a criminal history check & a Division of Motor Vehicles check.

The SCPA coordinator or his/her designee will review the SCPA applications and notify applicants who are selected.

The SCPA coordinator is Lieutenant Paul Burroughs at 804-733-2773.

The Brochure includes the application that can either be mailed to the address or dropped off at the Police Department at 6600 Courthouse Rd., Prince George, VA 23875.
