Sterilization

The spay/neuter surgery is covered in each pet's adoption fee. All pets are not required to leave the facility spayed/neutered prior to adoption as long as the adopter lives in Prince George County or its surrounding counties/cities, which include Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Petersburg, Chesterfield County, Sussex County, Surry County, Dinwiddie County, and Charles City County. If the adopter lives outside of Prince George County or its surrounding counties/cities, the pet must be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.

If the pet leaves the facility without the spay/neuter surgery prior to adoption, the adopter is required to sign a spay/neuter contract, which indicates that the adopted pet must be spayed/neutered within 30 days of the adoption if the the animal is sexually mature, or within 30 days after the animal reaches sexual maturity if the animal is not sexually mature at the time of adoption.
