Message from the County Administrator
February, 2018

This message is a monthly update in 2018 to better update our citizens and visitors to the website. The information serves as a status report for ongoing projects, and also serves as a preview to different happenings that are in the planning stages.

County Government Offices will be closed Monday, February 19 in observance of President’s Day. Offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 20.

The Board of Supervisors will hold its regular meetings this month on Tuesday, February 13 and Tuesday, February 27 at 7 p.m. in the Board Room. I will present the FY’19 Annual Budget proposal to the Board of Supervisors at the February 27 meeting.

The Board of Supervisors will also hold a pre-budget worksession at 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 6 in the Board Room.

Registration for 4-H Camp July 2-6 is underway until filled.

The 26th Annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics will be held February 2-3 at Virginia Beach.

Members of the Board of Supervisors and County Staff will be participating in ‘Legislative Day’ February 8 in Richmond as part of a lobbying effort by the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo).

The Prince George Social Services Advisory Board will meet at 9 a.m. Monday, February 12 in the Department of Social Services.

The Prince George School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 12 in the Board Room of the Administration Building.

The Fort Lee Civilian Military Council will meet at 12:00 Noon Tuesday, February 13 in Richmond.

The Prince George Industrial Authority (IDA) will meet at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, February 7 in the Community Room of the Human Services Building.

The Prince George Fire & EMS Advisory Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 15 in the Board Room.

The Prince George Business Roundtable will hold its first meeting in 2018 at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, February 21 in the Prince George Library.

The Hopewell-Prince George Chamber of Commerce will host its Annual Membership Brunch & Awards Ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 22 at Upper Shirley Vineyards.

The Prince George County Fire & EMS Awards ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 22 at Prince George High School.

The Burrowsville Community Center will be the location for a Black History Month Celebration: ‘Poetry in Song’ & ‘A Profile of the African American Man in Wartime’ at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 22.

The Crater Youth Care Commission will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 23 in the Commission’s administrative offices.

Prince George TRIAD will hold its next meeting at 1 p.m. Monday, February 26 in the Prince George Library.

The Prince George Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, February 22 in the Board Room.

Here is a capsule glance of other activities that will be happening within County government during the month of February:

• The Board of Supervisors at its February 13 will receive two reports: (1) VDOT; and (2) General Assembly Liaison Martha Burton.

• The Board of Supervisors at its February 13 meeting will consider approval of lease agreement with Verizon for the Courthouse Water Tank.

• The Board of Supervisors at its February 13 meeting will discuss the 2017 Annual Reports submitted by administrative department heads.

• The Board of Supervisors at its February 27 meeting will consider hiring a contractor for the Courthouse Basement Buildout.

• The Board of Supervisors at its February 27 will hold a public hearing on a Special Exception to construct a new Burn Building.

• The Board of Supervisors at its February 27 meeting will consider revisions to the Employee personnel policy.

• Registration is underway for various Parks & Recreation spring activities. Information can be received at www. http://www.princegeorgecountyva.gov.

• The search will continue this month to fill two key positions within County Government: Director of Utilities; and Building Official.

• The Public Computer Lab at the Central Wellness Center is open from 5-8 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, and 5-7 p.m. on Fridays.

• New bleachers and an additional scoreboard will be installed this month at the Central Wellness Center gymnasium.
