(Prince George, VA) – Police K-9 Assists in Arrest

On November 27, 2017, at approximately 5:20 p.m., the Prince George County Police Department responded to the 18000 block of Loving Union Road in reference to an unknown subject who had circled the home striking trees, a fence, a well cover before ramming the   pickup truck into the front of an occupied residence.

Upon arrival, police observed the male subject in the driver’s seat of the truck on the front lawn facing the house.  After several failed attempts to have the suspect comply with officers commands, a Prince George County Police Officer released his Patrol K-9.  K-9 Chace entered suspect vehicle thru an open window, engaged the suspect, providing officers with an opportunity to safely affect an arrest.  A loaded pistol was located inside the truck in immediate proximity to the driver.

The suspect, identified as Joseph E. Perkinson, age 48, of Sussex County, was arrested for felony Destruction of Property, Concealed Weapon, Driving Under the Influence, and Obstruction of Justice.

At this time, the Prince George County Police has not established any connection between the suspect and homeowner.  The suspect received bite wounds on his left arm.  There were no other injuries sustained during these events.  Without the heroic efforts of K-9 Chace, the outcome of this situation very likely would have been more consequential.
