Prince George, VA – Prince George Fire and EMS Captain selected to attend the 2016 Virginia Chief Officers Academy.

Prince George Fire and EMS is proud to announce the enrollment of Captain Jason Koren in the 2016 Virginia Fire Officers Academy to be held in July, at the University of Richmond. Captain Koren began his tenure with the department as a Volunteer in 1999. He was hired in 2012 where he progressed through the rank of Lieutenant and was recently promoted to the rank of Captain in October of 2015. Captain Koren oversees four (4) full time and seven (7) part-time employees.

“Captain Koren has worked on numerous programs and projects that have elevated the level of service provided to the citizens and visitors in Prince George County. Most notably, Captain Koren led the department through a transition from paper reporting for Fire and EMS calls to an electronic records management system. Captain Koren additionally spearheaded the initiative through grants and local funding to provide capabilities for our first responders to utilize technology through the use of tablet devices to help respond to and report emergency calls. We are proud of Captain Koren and his accomplishments”, said Director Owens.

The VFCA Chief Officers Academy is a 6-day on-campus resident program geared towards the first level of chief officers within a department. The focus is to provide a developmental opportunity for those recently promoted or aspiring to be chief officers.

The Academy will be held, July 10-15 and will conclude with a graduation ceremony on the afternoon of Friday, July 15. The leadership topics that will be covered in the academy were identified through a survey of Virginia Fire Chiefs. These topics and others will be covered through a mixture of lecture and activities designed to engage the students and encourage sharing of experiences, concepts, and philosophies.
