September 9, 2008

Investigation has thus far revealed that 43-year-old Antonio Tenorio from Lenexa, Virginia (in the Providence Forge area) was in a marked work zone, kneeling down, performing work on the road surface when he was struck by a dump truck that was backing. Prince George Emergency Crew was first on the scene, arriving within five-minutes of the call, and discovered that the victim was deceased.
Both the victim and the 38-year-old driver of the dump truck are employed by Curtis Contracting, based out of West Point, Virginia, which is company doing subcontract work on this VDOT road project.
A joint investigation involving Prince George County Police, Virginia Department of Labor and Industry / Virginia Occupational Safety and Health, and VDOT with assistance from the Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Safety Troopers remains underway. No charges have been placed against the truck driver at this time and would be pending the outcome of the investigation.
This entire incident was confined to the highway work zone. County Drive, Route 460, was already reduced from four lanes to two due to the construction project. There were no traffic delays as a result of this incident and there were no other injuries.
