Q: Where can I find maps which show the general layout of water and sewer lines in the subdivisions of the county?
A:
General location maps are shown on the maps on the gis website.   http://gis.princegeorgeva.org/website/base/viewer.htm is the link to this location. These maps are not to be used in the place of calling Miss Utility for underground excavations.  Additionally the maps are for general information only for exact information on location, capacity, and connecting to existing water and sewer lines. Exact information can be obtained by calling the engineering office at 722-8687.
Q: I am a frequent traveler is there anything that I can do to keep from having the water turned off because I missed paying a bill?
A:
You can over pay your bill by one billing cycle average. The overpayment will be held as a credit in your account to pay for future bills that are not paid. The deposit cannot be used for non payment of utility bills.
Q: Where does my water come from?
A:
This really depends upon where you are located. The major water supplier to the County is the Appomattox River Water Authority of which the County is a member. The remaining subdivisions, Beechwood Manor, River's Edge, Jordan on the James, Cedarwood and Prince George Woods all have well water.
Q: Why do I have Virginia American water or Lundie Utilities water but I have to pay your sewage fees?
A:
In the Stratford Woods/Jefferson Park Area as well as New Birchett Estates Virginia American has been given permission to supply water. Lundie Utilities supplies water to Huckleberry Hills and Wildwood Farms. Both companies, by agreement, provide their meter readings to Prince George County Utilities for the purpose of consumption based billing of sewage charges.
Q: Why is the sewage charge so much more than the water charge?
A:
The sewage charge is higher because it is much more expensive to collect and treat wastewater than it is to treat and distribute drinking water. Wastewater treatment processes are much more complex and the cost for building the treatment facilities is much higher than for water treatment.
Q: I do a lot of outside watering of the lawn, and in addition we are constantly adding water to the pool, can I get a reduction in the sewer bill for this water usage that doesn't return to the sewer?
A:
The above usages are considered irrigation usages. To get a credit on your sewer bill you will need to purchase an irrigation meter which is available at the local hardware store for approximately $70 including necessary connections. You will be responsible to call in the reading on the irrigation meter at the first of the month to get credit on your sewer bill. The irrigation meter purchased will need to read in gallons.  The irrigation meter is considered property of the home owner.
Q: How long do you keep my deposit for water/wastewater service?
A:
The deposit is kept until the account is closed. Upon closing the account the deposit will be applied to the final bill.
Q: Are there any deposits required to begin water and sewer service?
A:
Deposits are required, however, due to the complexities involving different water suppliers in the County you will need to call the Utilities Office at 733-2614 for the exact amount.  Only renters will need to pay the deposit.  Homeowners will not be required to pay the deposit.
Q: Why do I have to complete the race/ethnic origins worksheet when I apply for water/wastewater service?
A:
This worksheet is separate from your application and kept in a separate file for use by Rural Development. Rural Development is a funding agency that provided funds for several utility projects and part of their requirement is that this questionnaire be completed.
Q: Can I pay my utility bill by credit card?
A:
Yes, a current bill can be paid by credit card in the Treasurer's Office. If you are using the phone service, the bill must be paid five (5) business days prior to the due date to avoid late fees and/or disconnection of service.  The credit card phone service number is 1-800-272-9829.  The jurisdiction number is 1011.
Q: Where can I pay my utilty bill?
A:
Bills can be paid in person in the Treasurer's office. They can also be left in the drop box located in front of the Treasurer's Office. Payments that are made at the drop box will not be credited in the Treasurer's Office until the next business day. Therefore, on the 15th you must pay in person inside the Treasurer's Office. The payments can also be mailed to the address shown on the bill.
Q: What happens if I don't pay my utility bill?
A:
The Utility bills are sent out about the 20th of each month. They are due by 5:00 p.m. in the Treasurer's Office by the close of business on the 15th of the following month. If the bill is unpaid at that time a penalty of 8% is assessed on the bill and a second notice is sent to the homeowner around the 20th of the month. If the bill continues unpaid 7 days after the delinquent notice the water service is subject to being terminated for non-payment.
Q: What will happen if my water service is terminated? [Utilties]
A:

Reconnection fees increase in $40.00 increments each time service is terminated for nonpayment. Once service has been disconnected for nonpayment customers must avoid disconnection for 24 consecutive months to avoid additional reconnection charges. Before water service will be restored you must pay the bill with cash, money order, credit or debit card, or cashiers check in the Treasurer's Office.

The utilities department worker who is cutting off your water service will not accept payment.

Payment must be made before 5:00 p.m. for Prince George Water customers to have water reconnected that evening. Virginia American customers must make payments before 3:00pm at Prince George County Treasurer's office to have water reconnected that evening.

Q: Should I expect to see a water consumption of 12,000 gallons per billing cycle? [Utilities]
A:
Usage depends upon the number and age of family members as well as outdoor water usage. Larger homes with more family members can average up to 20,000 gallon per billing cycle. This would result in a bill of $134.
