Prince George County Government
Prince George County provides complete local government services: fire & police protection; emergency rescue services; public school system; and public utilities.
There are no incorporated towns in Prince George, which is governed by five elected officials, known as the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors holds two regular monthly meetings and often schedules additional special meetings. The Board is responsible for establishing local public policy, raising local resources to support public programs and oversee the County's affairs through its appointed administrative official, the County Administrator.

Public Safety
Law Enforcement
The Prince George County Police Department, the primary law enforcement agency for the County, is organized into three divisions:

Uniform Services -- responsible for all initial criminal and traffic crash investigations, requests for service from citizens, traffic control and preventive patrol;
-
Investigative Services -- responsible for all criminal investigations, crime scene expertise and collection of evidence; and
-
Administrative Services -- supports all police activities and is responsible for the emergency communications center, animal control, maintaining police records and criminal history information.
There are 43 full-time and 11 auxiliary (volunteer) sworn officers.
The Prince George County Sheriff's Department primarily serves civil and criminal papers, provides court complex & community activity security, administers safety programs and serves in selective law enforcement capacity. There are 8 full-time and 4 part-time sworn officers.
Fire
The County is served by 5 all-volunteer fire departments. Stations strategically located in Burrowsville, Carson, Disputanta, Jefferson Park and Prince George Courthouse are able to provide effective fire protection to all parts of the County. Crews can respond to calls within 10 minutes.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
The PG Emergency Crew is a 55-member all-volunteer squad, trained to respond to any type of medical emergency. With annual call load of 1500 plus, the PG Emergency Crew maintains a reciprocal working agreement with the City of Hopewell and Southside.
