Household Hazardous Waste/Tire Collection Day - Saturday, May 2, 2009

and Company 1 Fire Stations at the Courthouse Complex

Household Hazardous Waste Collection day is set aside for Prince George County residents to bring their hazardous waste for disposal without charge.  Many household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, paint products and automobile fluids contain chemicals that are toxic and are hazardous.  Improper disposal of these materials is harmful to our environment.  Please bring materials in their original containers.  Materials will be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner by a licensed hazardous waste disposal firm.

What Will NOT Be Accepted What WILL Be Accepted
  • Used motor oil and antifreeze
  • Commercial, industrial, or medical wastes
  • Radioactive materials
  • Asbestos
  • Normal trans or special pick-up items (tree limbs, appliances, furniture, other large items).

Others:

  • Compressed gas cylinders
  • Shock sensitive materials
  • Dioxins
  • Kepones
  • Unknowns (items without any type of identification)
  • Explosives

Listed below are some common hazardous items you may have in your home.  Please bring these items, in their original containers, to the Clean-Up Day for free proper disposal.

  • Oil-based paints
  • Insecticides (choloradane, DDT, malathion, sevin, arsenic)
  • Herbicides
  • Other pesticides (for control of rodents, fungi, snails, mites, etc.)
  • Fertilizers with herbicides
  • Paint thinners and solvents
  • Unwanted fuels (gasoline, kerosene)
  • Unwanted household cleaners (oven, drain, floor)
  • Chemistry sets
  • Photographic chemicals
  • Brake fluid

Tires NOT Accepted

Industrial tires used on logging and construction equipment will not be accepted. 

Tires Accepted

  • Only 25 total per person on May 2
  • 10 truck tires per person (20-inch rim or larger)
  • 4 rear tractor tires per person

The 25 tires includes all car, truck, and tractor tires.

Paper Shredding - NEW!

Bring your old personal documents and papers to shred.

KODIAK Shredding will be on-site to assist you with a secure way to destroy those old personal files and documents.  Paper clips and staples can be left in papers. 

NO cardboard, binders, or computer-related materials.

The program will be conducted RAIN OR SHINE!  No waste will be accepted before 9:00 am or after 12:00 noon.
