Animal Services Center
Set to Open October 5-6
Prince George County will unveil its new Animal Services & Adoption Center the weekend of October 5-6, County Administrator Percy Ashcraft announced Tuesday night at the Board of Supervisors meeting.
The facility will open after nearly 17 months of construction that has been met with weather delays. The cost of the project as approved by the BOS is $2.5 million.
Daniels & Company is the general contractor and it will receive its certificate of substantial completion on September 14. County crews will then scramble to move furnishings, personnel and ultimately the animals in time for the October 5-6 opening.
On October 5, a formal dedication and ribbon cutting for the facility will be held beginning at 11 a.m. Members of the Board of Supervisors, County Staff, the contractor, Architect Enteros Design and interested citizens will headline the group who will participate in the dedication.
On October 6, the public will be invited to attend an Open House from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. County Staff will lead tours of the facility and pet adoption opportunities will be available.
“We are very pleased to be able to open our new facility,” commented Ashcraft. “It will not only bring us into full compliance with state regulations, it will be a state-of-the-art facility that will allow us to give the best attention to animals and the public who are interested in them.”
The new center will replace the aged facility currently located at 3100 Union Branch Road.
